General description

Nangqian County is located in the south of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The total land area is 12,741 km2. There are 1 town and 6 townships. The government is situated in Xianda.

The population of Nangqian County is 61,000, mostly Tibetan. Nangqian County is based on both farming and animal husbandry.

Mineral, wildlife and tourism resources are all extremely abundant. There are at least 32 mammal species and 75 bird species. Nangqian County is particularly famous for its natural salt reserves, with a mining history of about 100 years.
