General description

Qumalai County is located in the north of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It comprises the headwaters of the Yellow River. The total land area is 46,800 km2. There are 1 town and 5 townships. The government is situated in Yuegai.

The population of Zaduo County is 22,000, of which 98% is Tibetan. Other nationalities include Han, Hui, Salar, Man and Mongolia. Qumalai County is entirely based on animal husbandry. Wildlife resources are very abundant, including white-lipped deer, wild yak, wild ass, brown bear and snow leopard. Precious plants include snow lotus and caterpillar fungus. Tourism resources in Qumalai County are equally promising.
