General description

Qumalai County is located in the north of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It comprises the headwaters of the Yellow River. The total land area is 46,800 km². There are 1 town and 5 townships. The government is situated in Yuegai.

The population of Zaduo County is 22,000, of which 98% is Tibetan. Other nationalities include Han, Hui, Salar, Man and Mongolia. Qumalai County is entirely based on animal husbandry. Wildlife resources are very abundant, including white-lipped deer, wild yak, wild ass, brown bear and snow leopard. Precious plants include snow lotus and caterpillar fungus. Tourism resources in Qumalai County are equally promising.
