General description

Yushu County is located in the southeast of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The total land area is 15,715 km². There are 2 towns and 6 townships. The government is situated in Jiegu.

The population of Yushu County is 76,000, of which around 90% is Tibetan. Other nationalities inlcude Han, Hui, Salar and Tu. Yushu County combines farming and animal husbandry, with the latter as main industry.

Wildlife resources are abundant, with 31 mammal species and 73 bird species, including snow leopard and black-necked crane.
